Kick off Gravity Haus Vail‘s fly fishing seminar series with an introduction to the fundamentals of fly fishing, led by longtime Vail Valley guide Ben Gruner. With more than 11 years of guiding experience in the area, Gruner brings deep local knowledge and practical insight, making this session approachable for beginners and valuable for those looking to strengthen their foundation. No prior experience required.
This one-hour seminar covers the essential building blocks of fly fishing, from understanding gear and flies to reading water and fish behavior in local ecosystems.
What to expect:
- A brief history of fly fishing and an overview of freshwater fly fishing
- Core equipment essentials, including rods, reels, lines and flies
- An introduction to fly types, including dry flies, wet flies, and nymphs
- Understanding rivers, streams, and lakes and how fish move within them
