Explore Vail Valley on an Electric Mountain Bike Adventure

Vail’s Only Guided E-bike Tour Offers High-Alpine Thrills with Low Effort

Looking for a new way to explore the wild, high-country terrain around Vail? Sage Outdoor Adventures has launched a thrilling new way to cover serious ground — and gain serious elevation — with their guided e-mountain bike tours. These high-tech rides offer beginner-friendly access to the remote, rugged beauty of Sage’s private 6,000-acre ranch in nearby Wolcott, Colorado.

“Our e-mountain bike tours are designed to be accessible, even if you’re not a seasoned rider,” says Nick Junker, general manager of Sage Outdoor Adventures. “The motor does 90% of the work, so you get to focus on the experience, not the exhaustion.”

Though Sage Outdoor Adventures is best known for its whitewater rafting — one of the Valley’s most reputable and long-running programs — the company continues to evolve. The e-bike program is the latest passion project, born of Junker’s own love of mountain biking and the desire to showcase their one-of-a-kind terrain in a sustainable way.

“The property is stunning and incredibly diverse,” Junker explains. “With most tours averaging about 2,000 feet of vertical climb and up to 15 miles of rolling singletrack and doubletrack trails, it’s the perfect place to ride.”

"We’ve got something for everyone."

E-Mountain Bikes for Everyone

Sage’s guided e-mountain bike tours are beginner-friendly, even for those who’ve never tried an electric bike. Riders climb gradually on scenic trails to a stunning overlook — fittingly dubbed the “Top of the World” — with the assistance of premium 2025 SCOR 6080Z bikes, equipped with multiple power modes to suit every fitness level.

While total bike newbies may want to practice on flatter ground first, most guests — including those coming from sea level — are surprised at how smooth and enjoyable the ride is. The bikes are powerful but manageable, and the trails are curated to suit the group’s skill level.

“We’ve got something for everyone,” says Junker. “If you’re experienced and want a real challenge, we can hit steeper singletrack. But the standard tour is ideal for families, first-timers and anyone looking for a scenic adventure without getting crushed by the climb.”

Sage Outdoor Adventures has a private 6,000-acre ranch to explore.

What really sets Sage’s e-bike experience apart? It’s the only guided electric mountain bike tour in the entire Vail Valley. Other outfitters may offer rentals or road tours, but no one else offers access to private backcountry singletrack — much less with a professional guide to enhance the experience.

“Our guides are trained not only in safety and mechanics, but in the land itself,” Junker says. “They’ll share local history, point out wildlife and make sure you’re riding the best trails for your ability. Plus, they come prepared with snacks, water, extra layers — whatever you need to have a great day.”

Ride When You Want, How You Want

Tours are offered daily from mid-May through mid-October, with three time slots available: 9 a.m., 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. Guests can drive themselves to the private ranch or opt for convenient pickup from their lodging.

Sage Outdoor Adventures is the only guided electric mountain bike tour in the Vail Valley, according to Junker.

And while the e-mountain bike tours are a standout, they’re just one part of Sage’s action-packed adventure menu. The company also offers whitewater rafting, ATV rides, fly fishing, tubing, inflatable kayaks and more. New this year: a geodesic dome retreat at the top of the ranch, available for private rentals, lunches or full-day adventures. Families and groups often book multi-day packages, rotating through Sage’s many offerings for a fully immersive mountain experience.

“If you’re coming to Vail for a week, we can be your adventure hub,” Junker says. “You can spend most of your vacation with us, doing something different every day.”
