Cole Hauser is best known for his role as Rip Wheeler on the hit Paramount series Yellowstone, but the actor has set his sights beyond the screen with the launch of Lazy K Bar Bourbon. Partnering with Montana cattle ranch owner David Leuschen and spirits industry veteran Britt West, Hauser co-created a Kentucky-distilled, 8-year aged bourbon that embodies the rugged character of Big Sky Country. When it comes to enjoying his own whiskey, Hauser keeps it straightforward — he’ll take it neat, on the rocks or, as he’ll be the first to tell you with a grin, the wrong way.

For those looking to shake things up, try the Avanti Apricot — a light, refreshing spring cocktail named after a ski run at Vail — and the recipe is one you can easily recreate at home.

Avanti Apricot

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces Lazy K Bar bourbon
  • 1 ounce apricot puree
  • 1/4 ounce lemon juice
  • 3 mint leaves (muddled)

Preparation

  1. Place three mint leaves in the bottom of a cocktail shaker. Gently muddle to release the oils and aroma — don’t over-muddle or it’ll turn bitter.

  2. Add Lazy K Bar bourbon, apricot puree and lemon juice to the shaker.

  3. Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously until well chilled, about 10-15 seconds.

  4. Double strain into a chilled glass over fresh ice. Garnish with a mint sprig or apricot slice if desired.
